Vancouver Apartment Hunters Tips
Unfortunately, Apartment shopping is not nearly as fun as clothes shopping.
When you hunt a new city for respectable apartments, you may need to take the subway, deal with not-so-friendly landlords and tenants, or stumble upon creepy-looking apartment buildings. However, if you do your homework beforehand and conduct a little research, the apartment hunting process will be a lot more bearable.
Here are some apartment hunting tips that you need to remember if you would like to move into the Vancouver area.
1 - First, make a list of what type of apartment it is that you are looking for, along with the amenities that you cannot live without. Set your priorities straight when it comes to the facilities. For example, if you can live without a pool but cannot survive without a dishwasher, this is exactly what the apartment should have. Second, decide how much money you can spare for rent. More than just the monthly rentals, it is the deposit which will put a big dent in your pocket – so settle for a maximum amount. Set a rule for yourself that no matter how opulent an apartment looks, if it is way out of your budget – it should be out of your list.
2 - Second, check whether a particular area in Vancouver offers the type of apartment that you are looking for. Check out the classified ads, go to online search sites, and look for the number of a local landlord and management company. This way, you will already have an idea whether what you are looking for is available in the area before you waste your time in an unfruitful visit.
3 - Finally, when conducting an initial visit to the apartment, make sure that you have ample daylight to see whether the unit is habitable and whether it is getting enough light. You can also check the security of the apartment building and the type of neighborhood that you will be living in. When you have narrowed down your choices to two of three, prepare any necessary documents and ask all the questions that you have to the landlord prior to signing the lease contract.
